Edward Pinter is a partner in the firm. His practice focuses on litigating complex commercial and business related disputes in various federal and state courts across the United States. His clients include Fortune 500 companies, companies in the Investment Services Industry, Domestic Insurers, and domestic and international manufacturers and distributors of a wide variety of products such as technology-based software applications and related hardware, medical equipment and heavy industrial equipment.

Ed represents clients in business related lawsuits involving disputes ranging from breach of contract to corporate mismanagement to business and securities fraud. He is also recognized for his specialized expertise in litigating and resolving complex insurance coverage disputes.  From first party claims to third-party coverage disputes, Ed has handled some of the most challenging and complex coverage cases facing insurers over the past three decades, including issues relating to mining, metallurgical processes, industrial manufacturing and petroleum product transportation. He has successfully defended multiple “bad faith” insurance actions in New York, New Jersey and across the country.  More recently, he has represented several major insurers in multiple mass tort coverage litigations relating to asbestos exposure and exposure to chemicals, including diacetyl and “butter flavoring.”

Besides his heavy litigation practice, Ed also handles sophisticated corporate work for the Firm’s clients, including mergers and acquisitions.  He also assists clients in corporate organizational and governance matters.  His corporate clients range from small “mom and pop” organizations to multinational conglomerates.

Ed’s litigation practice includes all phases of dispute resolution from pre-litigation advice and counseling to litigation, arbitration, mediation, trials and appeals. He has litigated cases in state and federal courts across the United States, including: New York, New Jersey, Florida, California, Missouri, Wisconsin, Arizona, Idaho, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia and Ohio.

He has received a Martindale-Hubble “AV” rating by his peers.

    Complex Business Litigation

    Represents large commodities futures customer in bankruptcy court (Southern District of New York) and in federal civil lawsuit against Jon Corzine and other former MF Global executives seeking damages a s a result of the collapse of MF Global.

    Represented major multinational medical equipment manufacturer in a series of lawsuits alleging fraud and misrepresentation with respect to the sale of magnetic resonance imaging equipment and technology.

    Represented manufacturer of warehouse distribution hardware and software equipment in dispute relating to supply and distribution of pharmaceuticals.

    Represented manufacturer and distributor of disposal sterile surgical blades and related equipment and pursued and ultimately prevented former employee from setting up and operating competing manufacturer.

    Represented international manufacturer of copy machines and other office equipment in series of lawsuits brought by distributors and purchasers of equipment relating to alleged fraud and misrepresentations concerning the performance of the products at issue.

    Represented plumbing contractor in connection with alleged property damage and lost business income in excess of $100 million as a result of failed plumbing equipment on trading desk of major investment banking firm.

    Represented plumbing contractor in connection with wrongful death actions as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning and death of multiple individuals as a result of improperly installed and ventilated hot water heater and home air conditioning system.

    Business and Corporate Law

    Represented major multinational medical equipment manufacturer in connection with potential acquisitions of and/or mergers with domestic medical equipment and technology businesses.

    Represented investment banking clients in formation of Investment Advisor Firm and separated Investment Advisor and Broker Dealer operations in order to maintain compliance with federal and state securities laws.

    Represented investment banking client in connection with merger with competitor  banking firm and organization and governance of resulting entity

    Intellectual Property

    Represented major multinational medical equipment manufacturer in litigation resulting from the installation and use of cardiac catheterization laboratory technology.

    Represented equipment manufacturer in negotiations with Hollywood studios involving placement of client’s products in film and television.

    Represented manufacturer of household products in dispute involving placement of client’s commercial trademarks and logos in film and television.

    Represented medical equipment manufacturer in acquisition of medical research group and negotiated with prestigious university in connection with licensing and patent transfers.

    Insurance and Reinsurance Coverage

    Represents major domestic insurer in putative class action relating to alleged damages as a result of denial of coverage for business loss as a result of Superstorm Sandy.

    Represented major domestic insurer in a series of lawsuits relating to coverage for environmental contamination as a result of cobalt, copper and silver mines and acid mine drainage in Idaho, Washington and Colorado.

    Represented major domestic insurer in multiple coverage litigations, including related bankruptcy proceedings relating to the defense and indemnification of major asbestos manufacturer and installer.

    Represented major domestic insurer in bad faith litigation stemming from coverage disputes as a result of property damage and business loss as a result of Superstorm Sandy.

    Represented domestic insurer in connection with coverage litigation relating to tort liability resulting from controversial “conversion therapy” aimed at changing sexual orientation of homosexuals.

    Represented domestic insurer in action commenced by New York State relating to contamination of public drinking water as a result of a decades long petroleum leak from underground storage tanks at Westchester County service station.

    Represented domestic insurer in series of litigations resulting from leaks of underground petroleum pipelines in rural Mississippi, Georgia and Alabama.

    Represents major domestic insurer in first party property damage coverage actions resulting from fire loss, including arson and other alleged fraudulent and/or intentional torts.

    Construction & Labor Law Litigation

    Successfully represented roofing contractor in New York Labor Law Section 240 litigation resulting from fall from roof replacement project which resulted in devastating spinal cord and central nervous system injuries.
